Reality room. Just an idea. One place in each town where normal ordinary people can get normal ordinary advice about real things in life. NO HYPE.
There is so much c--p in life these days that says you can get anything, do anything, be anything, and you're worth it !!! Go for it, grab it all !!! Buy it all on credit, have all the bling, the new car, and on and on and on !!!
It would be nice to be able to go somewhere and talk to people about the normal things in life like,
How at the age of 58, with no references, having been self-employed for the last 8 years, can i get a nice little part time job. Maybe filing clerk (do people stil use a basic filing clerk to put paper into boxes these days) or long distance van driving but not multi-drop. (that' would be my first q?)
Or for other people it might be questions about finding a quiet flat/bed-sit.
Or maybe just the simple questions: What should I, in reality, expect from life. What aims are real enough to go for. What should my priorities be.
The idea would not be for people who wanted to be treated as : alchoholics, drug users, gays, or other 'groups' , as most of these get special help if they go to the right places to get it. It would not be for young people, they've got 'Connections' or other young helpers. So who would it be for?
It would be for people coming out of teenage, 20 yrs +, up to maybe retirement age. . People who are a bit lost as to what to do with life and what to aim for and how to get there.
It's strange, single parents can get advice, there's always social services and such. But what about a single person or a married person with a family that needs basic advice.
You walk into a job centre and they point you at a machine "Do that" "Could have done that on my computar at home. Wanted to talk to someone" "We don't do that" That's exactly what it's like, I know, I've been through it. "How about some training?" "You can't have any, you haven't been unemployed long enough" O k so back to self-employment.
I've tried these 'agencies' too, applied for jobs online, CV and all, but it's all hype. Nobody wants to talk to other people on a basic level.
So wouldn't it be nice to be able to just go somewhere, where you can feel relaxed, and just talk your situation through. You know, where you are in life, where you would like to be, how to get there, are you expecting too much from life considering your own circumstances, etc......
A place that would do a bit of research for you or help you to do it for yourself.
Not hand outs, not doing things for lazy people, BUT giving basic NO HYPE advice on how to improve your life / situation.
It would give ordinary people a chance to get back into the mainstream of living again instead of being left at the roadside of life......
Any thoughts ???

Do you mean a bit like the citizens advice bureaus or maybe not?
I guess society expects "ordinary" folk to have friends to confide in or be able to figure things out for themselves but that's not always the case is it.
